The short version
To text US customers from a local business number, you generally need carrier registration, clear consent, working opt-outs and messages that match what you registered. This page is general guidance, not legal advice.
What is A2P 10DLC?
A2P 10DLC is the US carrier system for business texts sent from standard 10-digit numbers. It covers automated messages such as reminders and follow-ups, not only marketing.
What you need
- Business details: your legal business name, tax ID (such as an EIN) where applicable, address, website and a contact person. Sole proprietor options have their own limits.
- Campaign details: what you send, sample messages and how people opt in.
- A public privacy policy: stating that phone numbers and SMS consent aren't shared with third parties for marketing.
- Recorded consent: telling people what they will receive, that message and data rates may apply, and how to opt out.
- Opt-out handling: honoring STOP and similar keywords until the person opts back in.
- Content rules: no prohibited content, no public link shorteners, and messages that match your registered use.
- Sensible sending times: marketing texts generally between 8am and 9pm in the recipient's time zone. Some states are stricter.
Being registered is not the whole job
Registration doesn't replace consent. You still need to be able to show that each person agreed to hear from you, and you must follow TCPA and state rules where they apply.
Who handles what
- Areeba Flow: helps you submit registration and provides opt-out handling and consent fields in the system.
- Your business: accurate business details, collecting consent, your privacy policy, your message content and following the law.
Fees and approval
Carriers charge registration and campaign fees, which are separate from your plan and non-refundable. Carriers decide on approval, so we can't guarantee it or its timing.
Other countries
Texting outside the US follows different rules. Ask us before sending to another country.
